Dr. Gilberto Azzi earned his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of Pouso Alegre in 1984 and completed his medical residency in Neurology and Neurosurgery at Hospital Alemão Oswaldo Cruz.

In 1991, he completed a fellowship in Microvascular Neurosurgery at the Department of Neurosurgery led by Dr. James I. Ausman, then President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, at Henry Ford Hospital. He subsequently earned a Ph.D. in Medicine (Neurosciences) from Wayne State University in 1994; the degree was formally recognized by the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo in 1998.

He is currently a neurologist and acted for more than 10 years as neurosurgeon member of the clinical staff at Hospital 9 de Julho, and holds specialist qualifications recognized by the Federal and Regional Medical Councils of the State of São Paulo.

Since 1988, he has served as Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Human and Health Sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, teaching Neurology I and II. He also coordinates the university’s Laboratory of Anatomy, Physiology and Neurology.

Dr. Azzi is a full member of The New York Academy of Sciences and the Brazilian Academy of Neurosurgery. He also works as an expert consultant in neurology and neurosurgery for the 5+ Perícia platform.

He currently serves as President and Director of the Miller Institute for Advanced Studies in Neurosciences in São Paulo. Over the past 41 years, the institute has provided an average of approximately 4,500 in-person consultations per year.
